Peering Policy
GraniteIX is an open exchange point:
- No minimum traffic volume to connect
- Route server participation is available and strongly recommended
- Carrier neutral — no commercial preference for any upstream or transit provider
- All participants agree to GraniteIX terms of service
Technical Requirements
To connect to GraniteIX, participants must:
- Hold a public ASN allocated by a recognized RIR (ARIN, RIPE, APNIC, LACNIC, or AFRINIC)
- Maintain valid IRR route objects for all announced prefixes
- Provide valid NOC contact information, reachable 24/7 for operational issues
- Use only a single MAC address per layer-3 router on each allocated port
- Only transmit frames using permitted Ethertypes: 0x0800 (IPv4), 0x0806 (ARP), 0x86DD (IPv6)
- Not point a default route or static route toward the exchange fabric
Route Servers
GraniteIX (AS401542) operates redundant route servers to simplify multilateral peering. A single BGP session to our route servers gives you access to all participating networks — no need to establish individual bilateral sessions with each member.
- BGP next-hop-self must be used when advertising routes learned from other GraniteIX participants
- Route server filtering is based on IRR data and RPKI, keeping the exchange clean and secure for all participants
- Large (32-bit) BGP communities are supported for granular route control
